unit 2.4 - developing rules to divide integer
what we need to know
- Understand the concept of dividing
- Multiplication and division operations are complementary, and therefore related to each other
- The rule of signs for multiplication are exactly the same for division
- Multiplication and division operations are complementary, and therefore related to each other

more information
Let's review:
the rule of signs for division
be aware! negative signs are cumulative
In this example:
(-15) x 4 = -60 (-60) / 2 = -30 (-30) x (-9) = + 270 (+270) / (-10) = - 27 And this pattern always holds true for multiplication and division: If the operations involve an ODD amount of negative signs, the resulting number WILL BE NEGATIVE. In this example: (-10) x 5 = - 50 (-50) x (-11) = + 550 (+550) x (-20) = - 11000 If the operations involve an ODD amount of negative signs, the resulting number WILL BE NEGATIVE.
