2. fractions as perfect squares
FIRST STEP
- Look and determine whether BOTH (the numerator and the denominator) are perfect square numbers.
- If they are, then the fractions IS a perfect square (Be careful: BOTH numerator and denominator have to be perfect squares for the fraction to be a perfect square!).
- If one or both is not a perfect square, then do STEP 2.
SECOND STEP
- Reduce (simplify) the fraction to its lower terms.
- After you have gotten the lowest term fraction., check that both the numerator and the denominator are perfect squares. If they are, the fraction is a perfect square.
- If one or both are is not a perfect square, the fraction is not a perfect square.
