unit 3.5: dividing decimals
And here we are. The one operation we had not dealt with: division.
Let's remember that to divide means to split, or group, into equal groups. You learned long division some time ago, and perhaps you feel as though you have not practiced it enough. And so, although you will allowed to use a calculator, I encourage you to practice long division by actually doing each division by hand before reaching for the calculator.
In the class notes, I explain how to use long division when dealing with whole numbers and a decimal, and both numbers as decimals. Look at the example, but really concentrate on the videos to follow, as well as the really great websites I'm providing.
Our goal for this section: to be familiar with the long division of decimals. Understand the general procedure! Only when we as a class achieve that, we will be able to transition to using a calculator.
